My memories of Big Corey go back to staying with him in the basement when we visited Atlanta. I remember him introducing me to "grunge" music, namely Nirvana. "Smells Like Teen Spirit," which ended up being basically the theme song to my generation..he was all about it. He cranked that and we jumped around and rocked out and I thought it was cool as hell. Those were some of the strangest lyrics I'd ever heard in a song. Tiger and the other Gillespie's had turned me onto the banjo so diligently, and here Corey showed me something different. I believe it was the next year that he introduced me to a funny yet very adult-themed cartoon called South Park...we laughed our heads off while the adults watched some Selma Hayek movie upstairs. I really looked up to Big Corey and I'll always remember those fun times with him in Atlanta in that basement.

ReplyDeleteWe only had Corey in our lives for 5 short years. We remember Corey always laughing. He was always stopping at out of the way places to pick up unusual trinkets, crystals, magnets, etc. He was full of fun and will be sadly missed by us all.
ReplyDeleteI loved Corey (C-Bear) as much as my own brother. I never had to worry about anything as long as Corey and Josh were around. He was always smiling and laughing and that I will miss greatly. He was a special kind of person.

Corey, I think about our short time together on this earth more than anyone knows. Mostly realizing I didn't tell you I love you as much as I should have. Please forgive me and watch over us and your babies and know we all miss you terribly. Every day.
